After graduating from the University of Waterloo in Civil Engineering, in 1980, Rene worked for Factory Mutual Engineering Association for 6 years. This job involved risk analysis and loss investigation for industrial and commercial properties.The next 2 years were spent with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, investigating fires and serving as an expert witness for the Crown in criminal prosecutions, such as arson and homicide.
The next 10 years were spent with Walters Consulting Corporation, starting as the lead fire investigator in Toronto, and moving to branch manager in Kitchener, prior to moving back to Toronto as President and CEO. Rene originally started this firm in 1998 as Caskanette & Associates. In November of 2005, he brought on Jeff Udall as a partner and the company name changed to Caskanette Udall Consulting Engineers. Rene is a member of the PEO, IAAI, NFPA, SFPE, CAFI, SAE, CATAIR and CSFS. He is a respected expert, and has been qualified to give evidence at trials, inquests, mediation and The Fire Code Commission on many occasions. |
