Goderich Tornado
In August 2011 an F3 tornado unexpectedly hit the town centre in Goderich, ON
We had 5 structural engineers in Goderich the first week, and we kept engineers in Goderich every day for 5 weeks assessing both commercial and residential buildings for safe entry. We also had 2 asbestos experts in Goderich sampling buildings before demolition.
We were able to provide next-day reports on hazardous materials so contractors could move quickly with demolition activities in these buildings.
Once all of the buildings had been assessed for safety, we then inspected the buildings to advise on the necessary scope of repairs and prepared reports and drawings for building permit applications.
We were able to handle over 120 Goderich claims in just a few weeks with multiple site visits and reports required on many of those projects.
This was in addition to our normal full workload, requiring many hours of overtime from our dedicated staff.
