Rene is a respected forensic engineering expert, with 40 years of experience, and has been qualified to give evidence at trials, inquests, mediations, and The Fire Code Commission on many occasions. He is a member of the PEO, NFPA, and CAFI. He is a certified Canadian fire investigator with the CCFI designation.

After graduating from the University of Waterloo in Civil Engineering, in 1980, Rene worked for 6 years at Factory Mutual Engineering, in property loss investigation for industrial and commercial properties. Rene then spent 2 years with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, investigating fires and serving as an expert witness for the Crown in criminal prosecutions, such as arson and homicide.

In 1988, Rene joined Walters Consulting Corporation as a forensic engineer, and eventually became President and CEO. Rene started his own consulting forensic engineering firm in 1998, operating as Caskanette & Associates. In November of 2005, the company name changed to Caskanette Udall Consulting Engineers, specializing in forensic engineering and environmental services for insurance and legal clients.

Rene handles primarily fire and explosion investigations, civil and structural engineering projects, personal injury investigations, and environmental remediation projects.
